  Mark McNamara, Owner mark@kosailing.com

As a native of the Northeast, Mark grew up on the water making himself available around the yacht clubs and marinas at a very early age. Following in the family tradition of being on the water all the time, Mark accomplished regional championship level by the age of 14. Through the guidance of his mentors and coaches, Mark grew into big boats and began competing on the international level inshore, around the buoys, and offshore. As a competitive sailor since 1974 beginning with the youth performance circuit, and then becoming an instructor, Mark began to see the value of what he was doing in passing on the knowledge and experience to the younger sailors. It is this specific knowledge and experience that drives him to support youth, recreational and performance sailing around the country. Mark’s career in the marine industry spans many disciplines. As a member of the Lakewood Yacht Club, Noroton Yacht Club, Storm Trysail Club and US Sailing, Mark continues to stay active in the local sailing community. Presently he loves campaigning his RS Aero USA-2211 in Texas.

Mark has amassed over 100,000 miles of inland and offshore racing, cruising sail and power yachts and deliveries in North and South America, western and central Europe, the Mediterranean and far east. Mark has received multiple awards, has numerous professional memberships and volunteers actively.

After developing a youth performance keelboat support business in the Northeast, Mark jumped at the opportunity to branch off on his own, follow his passion of supporting the marine market, and move to Texas and take over the reins at KO Sailing. Mark’s experience in the area led him to the decision to move the business back to Seabrook, closer to the hub of the marine industry in the fourth largest marine market in the country.

“It’s all about returning the favor”, says McNamara. “There were guys like Whidden, McLaughlin, Nelson, Knapp, Jenkins, Thompson, Lynn and Benjamin, who taught me the ropes, now it’s my turn to pass it on. And I could not think of any better place to make this happen, than South East Texas. The youth, recreational and performance markets are huge here, in one of the greatest sailing venues in the country and we intend to support that in every way we can.”
